What Does God Say??

As a christian I am constantly praying for the Lord's guidance in my life and my families life.
I pray for Him to lead us where He wants us to go and to guide us in our ways. Because of this I am always listening and open to the guidance that does come my way. I mean...pray all you want but you need to be open to hearing what He has to say. If you are not teachable than what is the point in asking Him to help??

Last week there was an overwhelming theme that came up in our lives. This came from books read, conversations, and sermons preached. Funny how that happens. The Lord places people and things in our lives to keep sending us certain messages that we really need to hear.
I suppose He could just open up the clouds and talk to me directly but then I would just think I had gone crazy and not believe what I was hearing :)

The theme has been without a doubt 'what Does God have to say about it?'

This is clearly the message the Lord needs us to hear right now. Either we have not been on the same page as Him or we just need to grow in this area. Regardless of WHY we are both hearing this message now, we are certainly listening.

Both Adam and I want to live according to how God wants us to, so how DOES He want us to live? That goes with disciplining our kids, being a good wife and husband, a friend, a daughter ect ect ect.
If God is Lord of our lives we should be on the same page with what he wants right? I certainly think so.

So Adam and I have resolved to consult our bible more on every issue, find the answers and become more commited to living according to the word of God. When we are faced with trials and dillemas it is so easy to get caught up in our own emotions and figure things out the way we think the matter should be handled according to our limited knowledge of the world. Sometimes we forget to stop and ask ourselves.... wait a minute....what does God say about the matter??

This is our goal for the next while. Especially when is comes to disciplining and raising our kids. I don't care what the world says about things because franctly people are imperfect and the world is full of Sin. I want to know how to raise Godly children in a Godless world and the only way to find out how to do that is with the word.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
proverbs 22:6

O.K then....so how should my child be 'trained'?? Let's see what God has to say about it and go from there.

After all....If I claim God to be the Lord of my life I better make sure we are on the same page....of the bible that is.

Hi Alyson,
I have just started reading a book about parenting and the author talks a lot about that verse. He breaks it down from the Greek and it is a new perspective on the verse than I have often heard before. The book is called "parenting, from surviving to Thriving" by Charles Swindoll.
Have a super day,

Amen! Thanks for this post. My husband and I have the same desire and wish more people did. It seems that there are so many people out there that claim to be christians, but they just don't seem to care what God really has to say. We have become a society so wrapped up in convenience and comfort that we no longer give thought to what God truly calls us to in our family, raising our children, being a good spouse, friend, and servant of the Lord. If it's not the most enjoyable situation for "ME" then it must not be what God desires. This mindset is TOTALLY WRONG and far too many have bought into the lie. We are a conservative family that believes the Bible is to be the guide for how we live our lives and desire to honor Him in all these things! Thank you for your encouragement.
