My new project

I love kijiji. I also love finding things for cheap and when they fit perfectly where I need it.  This will go in the girls closet. More drawers for their socks and stuff and all their clothes will hang over it.

I always find secondhand things so satisfying. It is the ultimate in Reduce/Reuse/Recycle.  Good for the environment, good for my wallet, and great for my spirit as I gain personal satisfaction fixing it up and making it our own.

I'll show you when it is finished. May take me all summer but eventually I'll get it done. Of course I do still have some junky looking lawn furniture that was last years project still sitting there. I have a feeling it will become campfire soon. Whatever...this is still my new project.

More Natural products for You

I've made some discoveries and changes that I've yet to tell you about. As always the motivation for my changes are 1) To save money, 2) To limit the amount of chemicals in/on my body 3) To help the environment by not buying factory made chemical things and 4) To help reduce waste

As always some of you will think I've lost my mind. Before you comment say to yourself 2 things. What did they do before there were chemical factories and What does the rural part of most of the world still do?

So here you are: I've eliminated Shampoo (The Net calls it Going Poo Free), Face cleanser and astringent, body wash, scrubs, and MOISTURIZER!

For Shampoo you can look it up on You Tube (Going Poo Free). I use the two big bottles at the back. One has baking soda and water in it. The other contains apple cider vinegar and water. These I use in my hair and my nether regions.

The square container contains olive oil and salt. I use this as a body scrub. It feels amazing.

The two smaller bottles contain apple cider vinegar and water in one ( I use this as a facial cleanser and zit prevention) and the other Olive oil. This I use twice a day every day on my face.

I have to admit that I was PETRIFIED to use oil on my face. I get breakouts and was positive I would have oily disgusting skin. NOT THE CASE AT ALL.

In fact...since using olive oil on my skin I have seen an improvement in my pores and skin tone. In the 3 months I've been doing this I seem to only break out right before my period.

Keep in mind I have never invested in extremely expensive cleansers and can only compare my skin to what it was before when I was using Dove soap bar on my face. But whatever....it is cheap and seems to be working and I love the fact that it is healthy. Apparently Olive Oil is the European 'secret' but I don't know if that is true or not. I know that cosmetic company's can't market or patent olive oil so why would they promote it?

I was skeptical about it all until I took the plunge and tried it. I'm glad I did.Feel free to look into it if you like.

I find my hair gets dry going completely poo free. I also find that I like to do conditioner instead of the recommended olive oil treatment once a week. I did find this all natural shampoo bar sold by a local company via Wendy's Mobile Market. It seems to work well so far and claims to be conditioning, but I have yet to go conditioner free.

Hope you enjoyed the post. If you want more detail just look it up yourself! There is a TON of information out there.
My next step: Finding DISH soap alternatives and Switching to Natural Soap for my Laundry. Any suggestions?

Enviro- MENTAL??

I cloth diaper, use cloth napkins, cloth paper towels, and have a couple cloth sanitary napkins (believe it or not they work great). I don't buy toxic cleaners, I use bins and cloth bags to shop, TRY to buy wooden, cloth and handmade things from the producer. I TRY to buy my food in bulk and make my own snacks to reduce money costs AND garbage.

There is a load of laundry that goes in every few days containing several of the above items. I rinse them by hand handling all sorts of bodily fluids from myself and my babies....So it was inevitable........

What is one more bodily fluid??

That comes from my own body?

Why not save MORE money?

MORE of the environment???

Is it our budget and environmentalism that drives me? The farm life? My military background that taught me how to live with NOTHING and still survive?? Perhaps it is all of the above.....

Oh yes I did.......

Introducing the Eco Potty Wipe. Used by me for Pee Pee. If used by ALL 4 girls in this house will eventually save 90% of all the toilet paper in this house!!!!

Good for the trees, good for the septic system.....
and seriously...It is JUST pee.
Living on a farm and being a mommy, I've handled WAY GROSSER things. For the record no I will not handle YOUR PEE....just ours ;) There will be TP available for ALL guests..lol.

Just wipe, and place in mesh bag provided. Then throw the entire mesh bag into the wash....Voila.

Conveniently and neatly stored above the toilet in a little drawer....
NOW BEFORE YOU SCOFF.......
What do you think people used before the invention of toilet paper?
What do you think MOST of the worlds population uses???
I'll tell you that cute little soft wipes are much better than what MOST use ;)
and SERIOUSLY.... It is JUST PEE. Wash your hands.
BESIDES......cloth DIAPERS involve WAYYYYYYYY GROSSER THINGS.

Un-Paper Towels.

I'm ALL about reusable stuff. It saves money and is good for the environment. Slowly over the years I have tried to cut down on waste as much as possible. I suppose going to the dump and having a septic system have helped in that department.

Most of you know I cloth diaper. I even use reusable diaper wipes. I do a yucky laundry load every couple of days because of this. SO.....

I was THRILLED when I found THIS SITE on Etsy.com. (OH how I love Etsy) The name of this Etsy store is Made in the Red Barn. They make and sell reusable PAPER TOWELS with the cutest dispenser I have ever seen. The best part is that they really do make the dispensers in their Red Barn. Have I ever mentioned my love for Etsy??? I love that ALL the money goes directly to the MAKER OF THE PRODUCT.

Here are my 'paper towels'....

The above is a sample of their naturally dyed coloured towels. I am using it in the kitchen right now to wipe Audrey's face.
Now..... For my review.
I've dusted with them (with just a little water to dampen them)
I've done my mirrors (with vinegar and water)
I've cleaned babies faces
I've washed them.
Result????
LOVE THEM!!!! I am hoping to never have to buy a paper towel again. Oh and for big spills? I've always just grabbed a kitchen towel anyway....
OH!! and if you want to be cheap....just don't buy the caddy. I admit that I really did not need it but got sucked into the cuteness factor. Just put them in a basket or a bag under your sink.
