We moved to the country to compliment our lifestyle of activity, creativity and imagination.
And to do fun things like THIS....
And to enjoy beautiful things that God created like having a tea party under 100 year old Maple trees that shaded us from the sun, with a table decorated with flowers picked from gardens.
So when I looked at the wall clock given to my daughter for her 6th birthday... The one with the Ages 8+ sign on it, with a girl dressed like she worked on a corner, I did not know what to think....or say for that matter.
All I could think of at the time is how sad it is that a Wall clock sold in the local Stuff Mart and marketed to girls actually needs an age minimum. How sad. And how inappropriate. I won't even go into what country it was made and the amount of plastic that is now going to take up my local landfill.
Oh well. I think we will go out now and play in the plastic pool I just bought from that same store.

I totally agree with you on the mentality behind the clock. I just don't get it.
Parents don't even think. I see little girls dressed like mini adults--only sleazier. I see little boys in shirts that are degrading and disrespectful to women, and I'm sure his mom bought it for him. I've seen super talented dancers in performance at the age of 10, bend over in front of a boy so he can pretend to take her from behind and spank her and the crowd cheers wildly.
It's just sad.

Ugh. Isn't it sad what passes for acceptable in our modern, "enlightened" society? I like happygeek's idea though.
I loved this post, Alyson! The pictures are beautiful and it just feels whimsical, simple, and peaceful all around. Looks like a wonderful party!
