For those of you who are asking...Don't worry Sara you are not the only one...
There is a huge fire in that furnace...it heats up water somewhere in the furnace...then the water goes through a pipe underground to my house (yes they riped up my yard)...then the water goes to some sort of radiator coil contraption near my furnace in the basement....then the fan from the furnace blows the heat coming off of that through the ducts in my house....the cooler water now goes back through another pipe to the furnace outside and we start all over...
Voila!! Heat.
Oh...and for those of you wondering. The good environmentaly efficient furnaces range from 12-18 thousand. Some day we will put one of THOSE in :) Ours is used and cost as much as it would to heat this house for ONE season!!
I have to say that it is 20C in here right now and I am soooo thankful my hands are no longer cracking from the cold. I thank God everyday that He has found a way for us to turn on our heat. There is nothing worse than choosing between eating and heating a home. I pray we don't find ourselves in that kind of situation again. And believe me...I'm not ever going to take a heated house for granted.
By the Grace of God we will get through these troubled times with dignity and a smile on our faces.

Oh my goodness, I'm so happy to hear you won't have to choose between eating and heating. Sounds like very lean times. I'm glad you were able to find a great (good?) deal on a used boiler! We never even considered looking for a used one. Hmmmm....
