I took a shower tonight. Our bathroom is between a room and a hallway and so I shut both doors so I would not freeze to death. I figured the steam would do me some good.
It did.
However...
On getting out of the shower I noticed my window now had 10 flies on it.
Hello??
Where do these things come from??
Now most people who know me know that I'm a pretty neat gal. Neat as in cool yes I'll agree, but neat as in tidy too. I'm no Martha Stewart or (Alana) with my label maker, and I'm certainly not a bleach everything twice a day kind of gal, but I'm certainly not dirty.
So again I ask...where do these annoying and dirty things come from??
Really?
Seriously?
Because they are annoying....and dirty.
I got out my Central Vac (yes someone installed it in this century old farm house), and went to start my nightly suck the flies off the 10 upstairs windows ritual when I dropped the hose and could not be bothered.
Why bother?
They will just return tomorrow....taunting me. When it is freezing tomorrow morning they will disapear to wherever they come from and when the sun hits the window they will just POP UP!! VOILA!!! .....Taunting me.
I give up. I throw in my nice white bathroom towel. I don't care anymore, and really can't be bothered.
The bug hating city girl in me is defeated. The country (at least they are not spiders, or something worse) girl in me is taking over.
Night night

Dear Country at Heart:
The flies retreat to all the spaces around the window frames. If you were to take the sash off or one of the wood trim pieces, especially when it was cold, you would see multitudes of flies. They get active when they get warn and emergr through the tiny spaces between the pieces of wood. In the winter I have taken some of the parts off my aluminium windows and vacuumed the flies out. But it makes no difference. Even a week or less later the space is filled up again after the next warm day.
We get the flies too! I think they hatch somewhere on the window-ledge creases. My husband got up out of bed night before last and killed this huge one! I'm with you, I can't stand them. When we first moved into this house 2 1/2 years ago, the first autumn we had several almost each and every night. Ugh. A pox on flys!
oh no! LOL sorry..had to laugh. That is just too funny how you write that!
have a great Tuesday! :)
I don't know where they come from, but hopefully they will all be gone soon with the arrival of cooler weather. We are dealing with those little fruit flies..even after I got rid of the bananas, they are still around...yucky bugs.
Hope your having a great day.
Ugh, I hear ya. The first few years we were out here, I tried to keep up, now we just eat with the fly swatter at the table and before the girls go to bed upstairs, I whack the few that are still stupidly bumping against the ceiling. (I don't understand why they have to go through this manic, retarded stage before they die naturally!!) Otherwise I just wait until the floor and window sills have collected a bunch of dead ones and then vacuum. They're just everywhere. And they're especially bad in old farmhouses where the homemade crank windows don't actually seal anymore and the screens don't fit properly!
But I agree, at least they're not spiders!! {{shudder}}
I have so enjoyed visiting, after way too long...
Happy belated birthday to little Erin! She is way too cute in that adorable clown outfit. :)
Peyton has gotten sooo big!
What DID you do when your hubby took the kiddos off on an adventure? I hope you had a good chance to relax!
Anyway, my visit must come to an end.
Until next time,
Christine
