A Rant from an Angry Consumer

Apparently now, it is known that the Harmful Bisphenol A plastic compound found in baby bottles is also in a TON of other things. In fact...Canada has JUST NOW declared it a Toxic Substance....But will that make a difference??

It is in the lining of cans, dental fillings, eye glasses, plastic storage containers ect....

Whenever I hear of such news I can't help but be annoyed.

Not annoyed at the fact that this compound is in stuff.

More like irritated that over the years the development of convenience foods and convenience in general is pretty much killing us....and we have known it!! and WORST OF ALL....The public is not educated enough to make informed decisions.

The chemicals in our food...in our processed foods....the preservatives, sugars, and fake sugars...the chemicals in our mattresses...in our clothing...in our vaccines...and ALL the plastic that has replaced paper bags and glass containers because it is easier to ship from overseas. All the medications with horrible side effects to help us 'feel better'.

I'm irritated because it's been 50 years. 50 years of people trying to make things cheaper and more convenient. 50 years of making our lives more 'comfortable'...and it is KILLING US.

That is NOT what I call DEVELOPMENT.

Our Cancer rates are extremely high. Diabetes, heart disease, asthma,Autism, allergies. The environmental impact is growing exponentially.

I'm angry. I'm angry that all the SCIENCE is ignored by the pharmaceutical company's, fast food joints, and pretty much industry and CONSUMERS. I'm annoyed at the world for calling such people Tree Huggers and environmental freaks. I'm annoyed at myself for laughing at my friend in grade 9 because she was promoting recycling.

I'm angry that people are killing themselves...living lives in sickness. I'm angry that this generation of North Americans is going to have a lower life expectancy than their parents. I'm angry that in University 11 years ago, I learned about the harmful effects of Aspartame but it is STILL ON THE MARKET!!!

I'm angry and I'm not going to take it anymore.

O.K I am, because I can't change the world right?

Well I guess I can just continue to be a freak of nature to my friends and family when I talk about buying my mattresses from Ikea, when I use cloth diapers, buy Eco friendly products, refuse to buy plastic milk bags, refuse to eat cheap shitty processed food.

I can do my part...and when I learn something new to apply it to my life. Not throw my hands up in the air and do nothing. Not continue to live my life in ignorance. Not pollute my kids and say well...everything will kill us so Let us eat cake!!

I just wish I had started to wake up sooner in life, because I'll probably be the one to die of cancer and heart disease or have a heart attack while running. It will piss me off because it will give an excuse to all the other people living a life of lazy gluttony an excuse to just keep on polluting themselves and their children and continue to rely more and more on medication just to keep breathing and allow them to sit on their ass watching T.V and eating their favorite shitty food.

It will give them an excuse to die and leave their children mourning their loss...

O.K...I'm finished. Sorry.

Now off I go to eat my MICROWAVE popcorn DRENCHED in melted BUTTER. O.K So I'm sometimes part of the problem...but at least I'm trying... right??

I laughed out loud reading this entry....

As you know I do the 80/20 rule--80% great, natural, organic and 20%McDonald's french fries!!!

Oh by the way.. I am really missing you lately.. not sure why so much now, but really missing you living here and seeing you many times a week and kids playing in your basement(and injuring eachother), and tea in the backyard, and going to the park...

Love your rant. I think it's great that you have standards in the way you're going to live your life and the way you raise your kids. They'll take it with them when they become adults and the world will be a bit better of a place because of it.

Haha, your dad's a riot!! It IS sad that the facts have been there all along and yet we've all chosen to ignore them in favour of convenience. I'm as guilty as any.

You're so funny ... I can see your face as you typed that :) But I think you're wrong, you can change the world ... you can change your little world and pray that everyone tries to change theirs. You are an example for all of us and by providing that example you show others how to make small changes that will eventually make a big difference. I'm not running out to buy reusable maxi pads (sorry) but I am freezing my food in glass containers and buying organic whenever possible. Pls continue to post the little things we can do to help our families live healthier.
