First Day Jitters

So...first day of 'school' has come and gone.

It went well. I don't know why I planned something different. I mean really...what we have been doing for the last two years has been marvelous. So why try to make life more 'schooly?'

After doing our 'lessons' of the day,I had to remember that the BEAUTY of HOMESCHOOLING is that you can do WHATEVER you WANT to....WHEN you want to. I mean...hello!!! it was 30C out today. The pool beckoned and called....so we went.

It was great.

Yay for freedom of choice and only needing to do sit down lessons for an hour to do what takes all day in a school.

I did notice a HUGE difference in my two girls. Lara is 6 and reading quite well. She knew her abc's when she was 2.5 and loved to do workbook pages when she was 3!!!! Erin...oh my sweet Erin. She is almost 4 and could not give a dingle about the alphabet. I've tried, believe me. So...we had to take it back a bit today. Back to the BASICS of A for apple...yay!!!

She says she wants to do 'school', but by that I think she means colour the squares on the page kind of thing. Whatever. To each his own, and since this child marches by the beat of her own drum I think I'll find myself getting creative this year....If not I'll pull all my hair out strand by strand.

So...Tomorrow we start again. A is for apple...yay!!!!

It's always so interesting to see how each child is unique and has their own individual strengths...and wonderful that homeschooling allows them to go at their own pace and pursue their interests.
