Weekend Accomplishments

I had a great weekend. I managed to go visiting and enjoy what is left of the summer with the kids.

I also managed to go through all the homeschooling material we have, and purchase a couple books that I think are worthwhile.

The chicken coop is still in my driveway (whatever. It is not going anywhere), and I think we will have a small cornroast Sept 6th.

Here are a few pics from the weekend.
This is Me and my favorite person Nancy. She is Adam's aunt and grew up on the farm we now live on. We truly feel we are Kindred Spirits. She is 60 and taught me how to windsurf. She is a role model to me in more ways than I can count.

Here is the girls on the step of Nancy and Peter's house. They are feeding the Chipmunk peanuts. This is about 5 minutes before they PLASTERED themselves in sunscreen.

Here is buddy playing with everything he could get his hands on as usual.

This is the Curriculum book I purchased. I did plenty of searching, and this one seriously covers everything the kids would be learning in grade one. I even compared it to the Ontario Government website and the content is the same. This satisfies any questions of knowing what 'everyone else is learning'...I may use it...I may not ;) But I have it for reference anyway.
I think we will start with it and see how it goes. This way Lara can pick it up whenever she feels like it and complete pages on her own, and at the end of the year I would have a good 'record' of her progress.
In Ontario we are not required to document anything, but for my own fears I think for this year that is what I will do. I'm sure as the year goes on I will become more comfortable with completely doing things on our own and piecing things together as we see fit.

That is it for the weekend update. Today we are off to a Cupcake making party with friends (better her house than mine), and On Wednesday we are off camping!!!

I don't homeschool, but I play one on TV. Sorry, that's what I thought this might sound like. Really, my bff does. She too worried a lot that first year, she did kindergarten here in Maine, especially since her daughter is a year younger than when they traditionally enter K. In an effort to have her daughter attend a 1st grade art class last year, the school (the principal, in fact, gave it) did an entrance assessment, and found her at that grade level.

Not necessary, by any means, but if you fear you aren't teaching all the requirements through school it's something to think about next year. It really eased my bff's mind, and was quite encouraging!

We were camping last weekend and my main advice is to bring lots of warm stuff for sleeping and first thing in the morning. It was chilly! Have fun!
