I just needed to get out of the house. Get out of the house and do something for me. Something girly. Something frivolous.
I had returned something at a store in town some time ago and still had some credit. So I decided to find myself some jeans that fit. You know...the perfect jeans that when you put them on make you feel like something other than just a 'mom'. Some jeans that remind your husband why he married you ;)...those kind of jeans.
So off I went. I needed a break. I took my oldest daughter with me and oddly enough found it really was a break. I was able to doat on her and have some fun....and we had sooooo much fun!
I found out my little 5 year old is AMAZING at coordinating the perfect belt with the perfect jeans. She was a joy and enjoying having 'girly' time with me. Afterwards we treated ourselves at my favorite local coffee shop and shared some pie. It was wonderful.
I was surprised because I thought I needed to get away from the kids completely, but found myself enjoying my daughter for the person she is becoming. I was able to look past her being my child....and saw the girl in her.
I think what I really needed was to just leave the cleaning and child rearing behind for a minute and just have a little fun.
What a blessing it is to be able to look at your child with new eyes. What a blessing to get a glimpse of the person God is creating in them....What a joy it is to be a part of it.
And yes...I found the perfect jeans for my body if I do say so myself ;)

One on one with your children is always good. As they get older you will realize who they really are inside and what they are thinking.
Dad
Sounds like you had an awesome time! I'm always amazed at how much fun my kids are when I throw all the "I should be doings" to the wind and do what THEY want to do. I always notice that I have more fun with them when we're in the city, visiting their grandparents and I only just very recently realized it's because I've got nothing else to do. It's not my job to cook, clean, or do laundry, so I can devote almost all of my attention to what they want. It's much more refreshing that way! I'm not sure why we moms don't make more of an effort to create times like that at home on a regular basis! (Well, I guess I should speak for myself -- I'm positive there are moms who are better at that than I am!!)
I'm glad you had a great afternoon date with your daughter.
What a great reminder that I need to do things one-on-one with my kids a bit more. I'm sure Lara appreciated the time with you too.
