Going to get Hubby

I am off to pick up my husband today!!! yay!! It is finally over. All his hard work has paid off and he is officially a police officer in the area he has wanted since we were married.

I am so incredibly proud of his accomplishment and more in love with his character than ever.
It has been a long...long fall and 6 years of him wanting this.

So...I'm packing up the kids and we are off to see him graduate on parade.

While we are gone, here are some HOMESTEAD CHICKEN/EGG FACTS FOR Y'A.....

- The egg comes out large end first

- My chickens lay throughout the day, not just in the morning.

- I don't wash the egg when I put it in the fridge because it has a protective covering over the shell. This covering protects the egg from any bacteria leaking into the shell....like the dreaded Salmonella. It also keeps it fresh longer. I just wash the egg just before I use it.

-Always store the egg pointy side down. This keeps the yolk floating in the white stuff and keeps the air bubble at the top. The white stuff keeps the yolk fresh and protected.

-My fresh eggs are good for at LEAST two months after collection. When I immerse them in water they will lay on their side. The older, non fresh ones will float. Put your store bought ones in water and see if they lay flat.

I'm so happy for you, Adam and the kids that his training is done and you will now be together. I really admire how you trusted the Lord with all of your decisions over the past year and really listened to His guidance. I know the past few months were challenging but you have been an excellent example of strength, commitment and faith to your kids. A huge congrats to Adam on his accomplishment. I hope he keeps our friendship in mind when he pulls me over for speeding on my way to visit you ;)

The reason the egg comes out big end first is so the egg hole closes slowly. Otherwise there would be this thunderous CLAP as the hole slammed shut and would scare the other chickens.

Daddy the wise.

Congrats to your hubby!!! That is so wonderful! Congrats to you as well for sticking by him through all these long and hard times of training etc! That is wonderful! :)

wow...i didn't realize those facts about the eggs! Thank you for sharing. We wash ours as soon as we collect them....i guess that isn't the right thing to do though, huh? it's just hard for me to imagine keeping them in my fridge with all the poo etc on them LOL.

It is so cold here..a couple of our eggs froze before we collected them! LOL
Anyway...i hope you have a great time at your hubby's graduation! :)

You make collecting eggs sound like an adventure. I used to try to get in and out as quick as possible when I visited my country friends.

I know that you have lots of skills.
