Tragedy in our little town

I interupt my chicken stories to say my condolences to the Scott family.

Our next door neighbors son Douglas Scott of the RCMP was shot and killed today on the job. He was 20 years of age and on the job less than a year. If you are Canadian it will be on the National news I'm sure. If you are wondering, the grey barn shown on the interview is my in-laws across the street, as is most of the land shown.

Thank you to Doug for your service. Thank you for giving your life.

A shame....a real shame.

I do have to laugh a little about country life. I looked out my window early this morning and saw 3 more cars than usual at the Scotts. I thought it was strange that there would be so many cars at the house on a Tuesday morning. Then when I saw the OPP constable and 10 more cars show up I knew there was something wrong.
Within hours everyone on the road was aware of what happened.

I love that about country life. When there is trouble EVERYONE comes to help. Everyone looks out for their neighbor here. If there is a strange car parked on the road you bet your bottom dollar there will be someone questioning the driver or looking out their window....or just 'casually' walking by and saying hello.

When there is trouble at someone's house, we all get involved. I don't find it nosy. I find it comforting to know that people around here care enough to know what is going on. Not out of judgement...but out of curiosity and care.

Today I am proud to be country...and proud to be a wife of a police officer.

When watching the news tonight, I thought, I wonder if Alyson knows, them, since it was in your area. So sad. It makes you hug the cops in your life a little harder eh?

What a blessing to live in the country though! I love country life! I think it is so sweet how everyone was so caring and thoughtful!

Just saw it briefly on the news this morning before switching to kids' shows. It's just terrible.

I'm so glad his family lives in a community that believes in LIVING community. That will be such a blessing and comfort to them right now. It's definitely one of the advantages of country life, I agree.

It is so sad and senseless when a police officer gets killed in the line of duty. It's especially hard when you have a family member who puts their life on the line daily. It makes you proud though.
