As Christians we reach out...we try to see a need and meet it.
Why?
I suppose you could say it is the Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have done to you) put into action.
Why?
To make ourselves feel better? So people can think we are nice? So people can see our church helping and say...wow that is a nice church?
If we are than we are missing the mark.
Helping other people and meeting someone else's need emotionaly/physicaly and/or financialy, forces us to get outside of ourselves. Stop being so selfish and realize that no matter what you are going through, no matter how much you are hurting...someone needs you...and needs to feel God's love working through you.
We are the light here on earth. We are the Lord's tools to show his compassion, love, grace, and understanding. He showed us the most amazing grace an mercy when he wiped us clean of our sins..when he forgave us for being shitty people and loved us anyway.
We do live differently...we do feel a sense of grace, mercy, and calm in a storm because we have the saviour working in our lives. Don't keep it to yourselves. Shine your light...step outside yourself.. you don't have to be perfect. That is the whole point. We need God BECAUSE we are not perfect...BECAUSE as humans we are stupid and flawed.....
BUT when you do....GIVE GOD THE GLORY....a Christian deed is pointless if God is not recognized in all of it. Tell people why you are motivated to help them. GIVE GOD THE GLORY....

Amen. Getting past ourselves to allow God to work through us, that's definitely the key. Easier said than done a lot of times, but key, nonetheless. Great post.
