Parent Dedication

This weekend we travelled back to our old church in the city to have our little boy dedicated to the Lord.
A dedication is something we Protestant Christians do.
It is not the same as a Baptism.
According to the Bible everyone has a choice to accept Christ or not and will do so in their own time.
God wants us to come to him willingly. I can baptize him all I want, but if he does not chose the Lord that is between Him and God.

I can also teach him all I want, but in the end it is Peyton's choice.

When he is good and ready THEN the Lord says we are to be Baptized as an outward display of our faith in Jesus Christ...we leave our old life behind and become new bodies in Christ. That is where the 'Born again christian' thing comes from in case any of you were wondering.

Anyway, we dedicated him...which means that we made a public declaration that we commit ourselves as parents to teach our baby about the Lord and what the Bible says and to also live the example. So more than a baby dedication I think it is more of a Parent dedication.
Some people may argue with me. Perhaps we really are 'giving' Peyton back to the Lord. Regardless it is something we wanted to do...not something that was necessary.

Teaching our kids about Christ is something we as parents will do regardless of our public declaration, so really...it is an excuse to get people together and eat cake...not really...but sort of :)

Anyway here are some pics. These are more for the family who could not be there.

This is the yummy cake my friend Suzin got for dedicating our beautiful babies

We also dedicated our children and show our promise to our church, family and God that we will raise our children up in the way they should go. That is really wonderful for your family (and i loved how you talked about the difference between dedication and baptism!) And those are all beautiful pics! Hope you have a fantastic Thursday! :)

I'm so glad you were able to go back and have Peyton dedicated at the same time as Mahone. What cute kids you two have!

Have a good day!

We called it Parent Dedication, too, although it was the girls who got the fancy certificates! Very cute picture.
