Today I got a glimpse of myself and my best friend Kristy 25 years ago. Lara had a friend come over to play and wow!!! They did not need me in the least. They took off right away and played for hours together, playing dress up, and wherever else their imaginations led them. I did not have to break up any arguing or police them to see if they were doing something they shouldn't. What a wonderful age! Of course I kept my eyes and ears open but just spent the morning playing with Erin and doing my own thing.
I have been waiting so long for this moment. When I don't have to sit and entertain my kids and just let them have fun with a good girlfriend. I just had to provide lunch and direct them to some quiet time and get them outside in the backyard for some fresh air.
I'm not sad and I don't feel un-needed. Perhaps because I had Erin and will soon have a newborn that will require me to do everything. Besides...my kids still need me for plenty of things. I suppose it was nice just to see myself 25 years ago playing with my best friend. It was wonderful to see Lara interact so (grown up) so to speak.
I remember my days with Kristy fondly, and I pray these are memories that Lara will remember when she is older.
